Smart & Rugged Devices Provide communication for the Mining Sector
The mining environment is extremely harsh, with excessive dust and temperature extremes being common environmental inhibitors that can play havoc with smart electronic communications equipment. Keeping people constantly connected, with 24/7 communication capabilities, provides mining operations with ongoing sustainability and ensures the safety of employees.
SS Telecoms (SST) offers a range of customised communications devices that includes a ruggedised tablet, a floor-standing electronic information board/kiosk, and ruggedised mobile phones. The ruggedised phones and tablet can be used as a logical extension of a mine’s PABX system. All devices, together with the locally-developed Safety Management System App, offer the ultimate in on-site safety awareness and compliance.
Ruggedised Tablet
Designed to provide reliable service in the harshest operating conditions, the SS Telecoms ruggedised tablet runs on both Windows or Android operating systems and contains an Intel® Atom™ x5-Z8350 CPU @ 1.44 GHz, 1.9 GHz.
Marrying aesthetics with functionality, mobility and durability, the ruggedised tablet is the ideal productivity tool for mine employees. Providing extended working hours with its 8 400 mAh battery, the tablet is rated IP65 and offers the efficiency and features normally associated with non-ruggedised devices.
Safety Awareness Information Kiosk
On mines, where hundreds of employees work across a large area on a daily basis, communication is key to safety compliance and productivity.
The SST floor-standing screen display provides a critical communications link between mine management and employees. By providing a central point of communication, the need for each employee to have a smart device is eliminated, resulting in reduced costs.
The information kiosk provides an interface for incident reporting in a fast and efficient manner, using both standard and customised software. By providing employees with ready access to workplace information on personal safety status, safety inductions, and updates on corporate safety rules and regulations mine management can ensure a safe working environment for all.
Ruggedised Phone Devices
The Ulefone Armor range of ruggedised phones is certified to IP68/IP69K standards and Military Standard 810G profiles. This makes them:
- Resistant to immersion in water up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes
- Resistant to accidental drops from up to 1.2 metres high
- Resistant to extreme temperatures
- Dustproof
- Vibration-proof
These rugged phones are manufactured using a bi-injection moulding process, which is widely used in the military industry, ensuring extreme robustness. Solid polycarbonate, glass fibre offers high strength and hardness levels, while soft TPU material provides effective buffer protection for the phones.
The advanced sealing technology and structure effectively prevents water and dust from entering into Armor Ulefone devices. A waterproof film protects the keys; components which are exposed to the outside have a high-density macro-molecule coating; and waterproof stoppers ensure a complete seal on the USB port, the earphone jacks and the SIM card slot.
The Ulefone Armor 9 is the world’s first Android 10 thermal imaging camera phone and can detect objects in a scene and create thermal images based on temperature ‘abnormalities’. This makes them ideal for safety and security by identifying not only people, but also hotspots which could indicate overheating of machinery or other equipment.
